Staff Blog: Through the Looking Glass
My name is Danielle and I am on placement as an intern at BANG. I work here as a project assistant, where I help the project workers in the planning and delivering of the programmes’ sessions. I also work on the social media here alongside another intern, my role mainly involving relaying the BANG experience to you!
I have been working here since mid-January and in this short time I have learnt a lot about what BANG Edutainment has to offer to the young people and the community. Over these past two months I have been struck by the level of dedication, determination and compassion the charity has put in for their young participants, and not just stopping at the young person, but also extending their reach to their family and school. From entry to exit, both the young person and their guardian(s) are welcomed warmly with a smile, their needs promptly provided for by the members of staff. It could be in the form of a tea or coffee, refreshments or a lovely catch up. I have witnessed project workers venture of out of BANG offices for home visits and one-to-one sessions with the young persons involved in the programme. Whether it be rain or shine, our project workers endeavour to bring their best when it comes to educating and supporting these young people in leading their lives.
I have been able to witness a particular case of a young participant who at first proved to be slightly difficult and disruptive during sessions. I witnessed a complete 180 degree change in the behaviour of the young person. The proof was in the pudding, a saying that was appropriate for this kind of scenario, proof indeed that the efforts spent here at BANG are fruitful.
