GameChangerz is a three phase programme for 16-17 Year olds in Brent. GameChangerz works to engage young people in the community through social action. This programme was run by BANG in partnership with the Young Brent Foundation and Catalyst housing from October to December 2016.
GameChangerz aims to empower young people to have an impact on their communities by encouraging them to think about social issues that are important to them and what they can do to make a difference. The skills that they learn as GameChangerz enhances their ability to raise awareness about these issues and will also boost employability and life skills (and CVs!)
Gamechangerz provides a varied programme which takes teenagers out of their comfort zones by going on a two day residential and taking part in outdoor activities such as raft building. They build the confidence to be proactive leaders by taking responsibility for a social action campaign at the same time as meeting new and working alongside diverse people in their local area. Participants will challenge their opinions and perceptions and learn new skills at the same time.
Participants will be given the opportunity to take part and engage in social action beyond the GameChangerz programme.
Participants will be able to practise essential employability skills and gain invaluable interview experience.
They will complete a blog or video log which they will be able to use to fundraise and raise awareness for a local charity.
By the end of the project the GameChangerz will experience a weekend away from Brent with their peers.
